“The car alarm was blaring, and there was a light moving around inside.

A couple in the Colorado Mountain Estates subdivision near Florissant thought someone was trying to steal their car early Wednesday.

When deputies from the Teller County Sheriff’s Office responded at about 2:30 a.m., they discovered a young bear in the car.

The bear was as surprised to see the deputies as the deputies were to see the bear, said Mikel Baker, spokesperson for the Sheriff’s Office.

One of the two deputies took some pictures of the bear, opened the car door, and the bear was gone in a flash, said Baker.

According to Baker and Teller County Sheriff Kevin Dougherty, this bear — like so many others — was very smart and had learned how to open car doors.

But as the bear rummaged around the car causing extensive damage, the door closed and it couldn’t figure how to get out.

The light the couple saw moving in the car was the dome light of the vehicle, which momentarily wrapped around the bear’s head, said Dougherty.

Baker said that bears are extremely hungry as they prepare for hibernation. No food should be left in a car, she said, as bruins, with their keen sense of smell, will detect the food and try to get inside.

In recent years, one bear practically destroyed a car after yogurt was left in it. Afterward, investigators found yogurt smeared throughout the car, said Baker.”

Crazy! Not something you would really expect to find in your car eh!

I have at least 40 squirrels that live in the trees that are visible from my yard and I had my pumpkins out on the back desk.. I kept watching to make sure they were okay and I was getting paranoid about it and then I saw this and couldn’t take it anymore. I brought the pumpkins into the house until we carve them. After all I happen to like pumpkin seeds too! Maybe I’ll share with my yard critters

“The bodies of thousands of wild rabbits culled each year from Stockholm’s parks are being used to fuel a heating plant in central Sweden. ”

“”Those who support the culling of rabbits think it’s good to use the bodies for a good cause. But it feels like the power company is trying to turn the animals into an industry rather than look at the main problem,” said Anna Johannesson of the Society for the Protection of Wild Rabbits.

The rabbits going up in smoke are the inhabitants of Stockholm’s parks who are culled to protect the shrubs and trees on which they gorge. But many of them are tame domestic pets turned loose by owners who no longer want them.

Six thousand bunnies were killed last year. The corpses were frozen and then sent to a special heating plant at Karlskoga, in central Sweden, where the cadavers were burnt in order to help heat the homes of residents of Värmland.

But animal rights activists have called for better treatment for the wild rabbits.

Mrs. Johannesson told local newspaper Vart Kungsholmen; “We want to see them start looking at other solutions for the rabbits. Helsinki in Finland sprays the plants to make them unappetizing and they have also set up a system of shelters for animals to be donated to. They have come much further along than us.”"

I grasp that there are too many bunnies.. I understand they are a problem.. that they are eating things they shouldn’t.. that they breed like crazy.. I get that.. I do.. What I don’t get is instead of doing something about the things I just mentioned they are all like “hellz yea, let those lil fluff balls breed so we can burn ‘em up real good for warmth”.. wtf? Srsly??

“GAZA CITY, Gaza Strip – Gaza City zookeepers have found a creative way of drawing crowds to their dilapidated zoo — by painting their donkeys. The Marah Land Zoo’s only two zebras died of hunger earlier this year when they were neglected during the Israel-Hamas war.

The popular animals were too expensive to replace, so the keepers decided to design a pair of donkeys with black and white patterns instead.

Ahmad Barghouti says a professional painter used French-manufactured hair coloring to make the donkeys look like zebras.”

“The behaviour has been observed in the wild before by polar bears emerging from the den for the first time or crossing open water.

However there was little research into the phenomenon and no photographic evidence.

Now a photograph by a British tourist has proved that polar bear cubs often hitch a ride with their mothers.

Angela Plumb was holidaying in Duvefjorden, Nordaustlandet, when she spotted the mother bear with a seven-month-old cub hitching a ride.

“The cub was on the back of the polar bear when it was in the water, then it got out of the water and stayed on its mother’s back a little, then she shook it off,” she said.

Seeing the bear had a radio collar, Mrs Plumb contacted Dr Jon Aars from the Norwegian Polar Institute in Tromso.

He had heard about the phenomenon, but said there was little photographic evidence.

Now in a paper in the journal Polar Biology Dr Aars has explained why the cubs might ride on the back of the mother.

He said that although young bears can swim they have not yet built up much insulating fat and may be at risk of getting too cold.”
